BAMWOO's 1 brush = 1 tree mission

Our mission is to use bamboo as a sustainable alternative to plastic toothbrushes

We want to reduce the amount of plastic we use and waste by finding alternative materials and practises that are easy and convenient for everyone to implement.

We also want to do more to actively heal the planet and playground we all live on too, which is why we plant one new tree for every single toothbrush we sell.

UPDATE July 2023: 72,232 trees planted

BAMWOO's 1 brush = 1 tree mission

Deforestation is a major issue around the world, and we're working to combat it with our #onebrushonetree mission. We're not content with simply reducing the amount of plastic we use, we want to do more to make the world a better place.

"A healthy forest takes care of itself, and every living thing below"

Which is why for every bamboo toothbrush we sell, we plant one tree.

The deforestation problem and solution

Trees are essential for a healthy balanced ecosystem. They not only provide a habitat for millions of creatures but play a crucial role in the water cycle, protect forest soil from sun damage and desiccation, and convert atmospheric carbon dioxide into oxygen on a massive scale.

Yet despite the issues, deforestation is ongoing at a staggering rate around the world. Trees are hacked down to clear ground for agriculture, to build with, and to burn on fires.

It's time to change this. Forests act as a natural buffer between us and all manner of disasters, protecting against flooding, landslides and avalanches, soil erosion, wind and hurricane damage, and even climate change.

Beyond even that, the issue of deforestation forces the question of what type of physical landscape we want to inhabit in the future: a natural living ecosystem, or a barren scarred wasteland.

To counter the issue, we've partnered with The Eden Projects to plant trees in Indonesia, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Haiti and Nepal. By working with local villagers we're able to both combat the effects of deforestation and help people out of extreme poverty - through paid work and creating a healthier, more productive environment for agriculture.

A reforestation success story: Maman'i Kambina village in Madagascar

Madagascar isn't just an island in an animated movie. Lying off the southeast coast of Africa it's the fourth biggest island in the world and home to more than 24 million people and over 200,000 species of plants and animals that don’t exist anywhere else in the world - like the famous furry lemur King Julian.

In fact Madagascar is a true gem and a genuine biodiversity hotspot: over 90% of the animals that live in its rainforests, beaches and reefs are endemic: they are found nowhere else on Earth.

And yet, more than 90% of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed, displacing entire species and damaging the Malagasy people's ability to farm and live on the land. Entire mangrove estuaries are gone, leaving the bare earth to wash away into the sea.

Using a bamboo toothbrush can help change the world

Help us do more to make the world the world by swapping your plastic toothbrush for one of our bamboo toothbrushes. They're sustainable, biodegradable, naturally antibacterial, a pleasure to use and look great in the bathroom - and we'll plant a tree for each one you buy.
